Are you a student paramedic or looking to get in to the ambulance sector, and require a C1 licence?

Our C1 driver training will give you experience in the manoeuvring of an ambulance style, vehicle safety and daily checks. 

We specialise in ambulance sector driver training using our custom built training vehicles, which are of a standard ambulance size and weight, as pictured.

Our driver training is conducted from our HQ in Cannock, Staffordshire an ideal central location just of the M6, by highly experienced drivers.

The Journey To Getting Your C1

There are a few steps involved in getting your C1 licence but its very simple and our team are on hand to support you every step of the way if you get stuck. You must be 18 years or older and have a current manual car licence (Cat B). STEP 1 - Order D2 and D4 Forms From DVLA Online The DVLA will post a D2 application form to you. You can’t download this because it has features that can’t be printed. You may also be able to collect the D2 Form from larger Post Offices. The D4 medical examination report form can be applied for online or downloaded and printed. Useful links: D4 Medical Examination Report Order DVLA Forms STEP 2 - Book Your Medical Here at Rapid Response we recoomend the services of Medicals 4 Drivers. To book a medical please click on the picture below or call 01782213214. STEP 3 - Return Completed Forms To The DVLA Once you have had your medical and youve completed your forms, return these to the DVLA along with your current driving licence. They will process this and send your licence back, which will now show you have a provisional C1 entitlement. STEP 4 - Book Theory Tests Once you have your provisonal licence its time to book and PASS your theory tests. You will need to book 2 theory tests called - LGV Cat C Multiple Choice & LGV Cat C Hazard Perception. You do not need to book a CPC for ambulance driving. STEP 5 - Practical Driving Course & Test Once you have your provisonal licence and passed your theory tests its time to book one of our fantastic packages. We will provide you with all the training you need to prepare you for your test. We will book your test on a date and time that is suitable for you.

2 Days Course (Including Test) This is ideally suited for drivers who feel they are confident, having good driving skills and experience. This course includes 12 hours 1-1 training with one of our instructors completed over 2 days, including your test. Your test will be completed on the next avaliable day or to suit your requirements. You will train in our custom training vehicle. Note: We do not control DVLA test avalibility so cannot guarantee test dates, please contract us if you require a specific test date. You must have passed both parts of your theory before booking this package as you cannot sit your practical test until this is complete. COST: £699.00 (Inc VAT & Test Fee) 3 Day Course (Including Test) Our 3 day course offers a good amount of time and will help you be well prepared for your test. Ideal if you have limited driving experince or just want the additonal practice. This course includes 18 hours 1-1 training with one of our instructors completed over 3 days, including your test. Note: We do not control DVLA test avalibility so cannot guarantee test dates, please contract us if you require a specific test date. You must have passed both parts of your theory before booking this package as you cannot sit your practical test until this is complete. COST: £1000 (Inc VAT & Test Fee) One Hour Session (No Test) This includes just one hour of training with our instructor in our training vehicle. This is ideal for people who may have past the C1 test and just require experience before starting your new career. COST - £55.00 (Inc VAT) Test Only (Including Vehicle) This package includes use of our instructor and vehicle for one hour prior to your test and use of our vehicle for the duration of your test. This is designed for people who have had training or experience elsewere and just require the test. This is not reccomended for students who have had no prior training or experince. COST - £299.00 (Inc VAT & Test Fee) Save 20% When Training With A Friend or Colleague If you have a friend or colleague you would like to train with you can save 20% on the above pricing. Training will be conducted together with tests taken individually.* *Second person receives the 20% discount. Further Information & FAQ's

Where Does Training Take Place? Our training centre is located centrally in the UK, close to the M6 in Cannock, Staffordshire. All training courses and tests start and finish at our Cannock base. Where Does The Practical Test Take Place? We utilise 2 test centres, Featherstone and Watnall. The nearest test centre being Featherstone which is around 20 minutes from our Cannock base. Although we can use other test centres if needed. How Big Is The Training Vehicle? Our training vehicles are 4.0 Tonnes and are exactly the same vehicles you can expect to drive if joining the local ambulance service. They are very comfortable, easy to drive and have a standard 6 speed manual gear box. They drive just like modern cars and are nothing to worry about. They also include reversing aids. Do I Have To Be A Student Paramedic To Train? No you don't. Although we are geared up to training ambulance staff and student paramedics anybody can train with us who wants to obtain a C1 licence. What Will I Have To Do On My Test? - Answer up to 5 vehicle safety questions - Reversing exercise - 60 minute practical drive:

  • No more than 15 Driver Faults (Commonly known as ‘Minors’)
  • No Serious or Dangerous faults
  • Drive in accordance with the Highway Code
  • Complete 10 minutes of ‘Independent Driving’
  • Moving away and stopping (Uphill, Downhill, Angled start)
  • Anticipation and Planning
  • Vehicle positioning for hazards

Our Vehicles & Instructors

Our Vehicles We train ambulance staff and people that plan on driving ambulance vehicles so we feel it only makes sense to train in the same type of vehicle. Many C1 Training centre will train in large 7.5 Ton LGV's which is the largest you can drive on a C1 licence. These are harder to learn in and have a completely different gearing system. We want to make things as easy for you as possible, so our training vehicles are fit for purpose and will prepare you fully for a career in the ambulance service. Our vehicles are Fiat & Citreon 4.0 Tonne vans that are very easy and comfortable to drive and include power steering, 6 speed manual gear box and reversing aids.
